Where do we go from here?

Two years ago, I began The Lemon Abroad.

My intentions with The Lemon Abroad were many. For one, I had wanted to give specific and helpful travel advice. I had wanted to gather in one place the restaurants, activities, and places of interest that I have discovered while traveling and share them with others. I also wanted to give practical, on the ground tips related to culture; so that while visiting a new place with different traditions, one could be prepared and respectful.

In just the last few months, the world has changed dramatically. We are not traveling right now, and may not be for a while.

Most importantly, the world’s attention is now rightly focused on human rights.

With these taken into account, I want to emphasize that The Lemon Abroad is about sharing: I want to use this website, my words and photographs, to share with you about places you may not know much about. There are so many places that I knew very little about before visiting them. The world is a very big place, after all. But learning about each other is vital. Through learning about what makes our cultures unique and special, we can appreciate the fundamental values that we all share. By being respectful of the communities and cultures where we travel, we open the doors to meaningful connections.

Two years in and moving forward, I want to incorporate more of my personal values into The Lemon Abroad: responsible and respectful travel, environmentally conscious lifestyle practices, and promoting the education and appreciation of the many beautiful cultures which make up our one shared home, Mother Earth. I am especially excited to share more about what I know best: living in Sicily, Italian-American culture, and attempting to cook.
